Call for Application for Scholarships  AICS-CDN SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

FOREWORD 

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), in the framework of the project "Promoting Sustainable Human Development through the Consolidation and Expansion of the Cooperation and Development Network: Cooperating in Higher Education to Cooperate for Development" support the 13th edition of the Master of Economics (Cooperation and Human Development)-MECOHD Programme at Kenyatta University, with scholarships for students from Kenya and other African countries. The objective of the action is to train development professionals in the field of human development and increase their capacity to operate in an international dimension. The selection criteria of the beneficiaries will include merit, motivations, and academic potential. Particular attention will be paid to gender balance and specific disadvantaged groups (based on income, ethnic minorities, refugee status, disabilities, etc.) 

BENEFICIARIES  

Scholarships are addressed to officials of local, national and international agencies, NGOs and other institutional bodies, public or private, and young graduates willing to specialize in the field of Cooperation and Human Development. 

 

REQUIREMENTS  

  Must be a national of Kenya or another African Country  

  Must have been admitted into the MECOHD Program or successfully completed the Bridging Course for the Master at Kenyatta University  

  Must be fluent in English  

  Must possess standard computer literacy (knowledge of basic Microsoft Office package)  

  Experience in the field of cooperation and development, in NGOs, local, national and international agencies and institutions (public or private) is an added advantage

  Partial or full Tuition fees

All the applications must provide the following documents in the order in which they appear below:         a scanned (pdf) copy of the admission letter to the MECOHD from Kenyatta University 

      motivation letter (maximum 300 words)  

      curriculum vitae  

      two reference letters preferably one from an academic institution and another from a work related institution 

      a scanned (pdf) copy of transcript of academic records  

      a scanned (pdf) copy of certificate attesting English proficiency (it applies only for non-English mother tongue) 

      a scanned (pdf) copy of passport (or identity card)  

      a scanned (pdf) copy of income statement related to the current or previous year     

NOTE

Incomplete applications will not be accepted. 

A pre-selection will be made based on academic career, international working and studying experiences, and knowledge of English language. Interviews for pre-selected candidates will be held virtually via google meet or zoom.

THE MECOHD PROGRAM  

PROGRAM  

The Program is delivered through collaborative efforts between Kenyatta University, School of Economics and the University of Pavia (Italy), together with their partners: Cooperation and Development Network (CDN), International Committee for Development of Peoples (CISP) Italy, Tangaza University (TUC) Kenya and UNDP Kenya. The programme’s core curriculum integrates knowledge spanning the disciplines of: Economics, Human Development, Project Design and Management. 

GOALS  

The Master of Economics (Cooperation and Human Development)-MECOHD is designed for individuals seeking to deepen their competence and effectiveness in the development processes.  Students are equipped with knowledge and skills for measurement and analysis of economic phenomena including human development, project design and management, resource mobilisation and cooperation for development in a dynamic world. 

 

STRUCTURE  

Delivery of the courses integrates presentations, seminars and conferences organized together with the partners. Lecturers come from different Universities of the Cooperation Development Network (CDN). 

Field Training and Internships form an integral part of the programme. Students are required to undertake research in relevant fields or areas leading to the writing of a project. 

The Master provides for students with a non-economic background a Bridging Course (Quantitative Methods, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics) lasting 13 weeks.  

DURATION 

The duration of the programme is two (2) academic years (4 semesters) spanning a minimum of 18 months. 

Classes are offered in the evening hours (5.30pm-8.30pm) and weekends. 

 

INTERNSHIP AND JOB PLACEMENT 

The Master provides a service of tutorship for the choice of the internship and a list of available options with NGOs. The Master also facilitates contacts with International organizations and the vocational guidance to the job searching orientation, through meetings with human resources experts.
