On Wednesday 22nd January 2025, a team from the department of Community Resource Management (represented by the Dr. Solomon Mburunga (Chairperson) and Dr. Christine Njuguna and Dr. Phobe Ndayala) lead a team from paNhari and Lapid Leaders Africa to pay a courtesy call to the KU WEE Hub Leader, Professor Waudo. The meeting was aimed at exploring potential areas of collaboration.
Phil Mlanda also representing Donald Bodzo, co-founders of paNhari, a social impact consulting firm empowering young professionals to address critical challenges were also present. They are working closely with the Talloires Network of Engaged Universities, supported by The Mastercard Foundation, to lead the implementation of the For Youth, By Youth movement.
Set to publicly launch this January 2025, For Youth, By Youth is a multi-year, youth-led initiative designed and driven by university students. The movement aims to engage 1,000 university students and community youth through:
- Tailored health and wellness coaching to foster personal growth and resilience
- Financial support for youth-led participatory action research projects with local community organizations
- Training on the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in communities and universities
- Individualized wellness coaching for personal support and guidance
- Accessibility and inclusivity services to ensure meaningful participation by people with disabilities
- Coaching, mentorship, and professional development training to build leadership skills
- Virtual meetings to foster relationships and develop cultural competencies
- Collaboration with community youth to enhance local impact and sustainability
- Opportunities to influence institutional policies and decision-making for systemic change and Platforms for public speaking at national and global events to share insights and build solidarity.
As an inclusive global movement, For Youth, By Youth specifically prioritizes African youth, displaced youth, disabled youth, indigenous youth, women, and gender non-conforming youth. From the meeting and deliberations, it was agreed that there exists significant opportunity for collaboration between the Department of Community Resource Management, the KU WEE Hub, and paNhari.
All parties recognize the potential to jointly address critical challenges facing the youth and the community through innovative and impactful initiatives.
