The programme equips learners with research-based knowledge in development of leaders in sports and recreation programmes
RATIONALE
This programme aims at catering for the need and the demand for the provision of well organised, well planned, and well managed community and institutional recreation and sports programmes in an increasingly stressful society. The available scientific and health-based knowledge supports the current changes in attitudes amongst the members of the public towards the role of physical activity in their lives. In addition to being upheld as an integral part of education and human development, physical activity is receiving a greater recognition today to achieving good health in terms of prevention or reduction of numerous debilitating health conditions. The Recreation and Sports Management programme is meant to train personnel at a postgraduate level to serve in this area.
OBJECTIVES
1. To improve quality of life though leisure and recreational opportunities in a collaborative approach that links theory to practice
2. To provide an opportunity for the advancement of knowledge on recreation, and skills in parks, and leisure management at a postgraduate level. To provide opportunities for research in recreation, parks and leisure management

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
i) The common regulations for all master’s degree in the university shall apply.
ii) A holder of a minimum upper second first degree or its equivalent, in the relevant field, from Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution of comparable status, shall be considered. Graduates in recreation and sports management, physical education, exercise science, as well as those in related fields such as health management and sports shall be considered.
iii) Those with second class (lower division) may be considered on condition that they have Grade “C” and above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.
iv) Holders of a relevant Post Graduate Diploma in Sport Administration and Management of Kenyatta University or any other recognized University shall be eligible for admissions to the programme.
